Sarah Palin announced her resignation just before Independence Day. When I first heard I thought that she was simply not running for Governor again in 2010. I guess that made sense to me as she wanted to focus on running for President. The bombshell hit when Palin stated that starting August 1st she was finished being Governor of Alaska. The move seemed sporadic and her direction was simply out of focus. People questioned why Palin made the move she decided upon, and I was one of those people.
Today I just happened to be clicking around YouTube. I didn't have much to do, so a random search for Bill Maher seemed like a good idea. That string of watching and clicking on the next video led me to the interview with Katie Couric interviewing Palin, yet again. The Governor had no response to Couric's questions. I was reminded that she was way in over her head. It was at that point that I actually realized why Palin decided to resign. I, like so many others across the country, thought way too deep into the matter. Palin's decision was very obvious, she had nowhere else to go. She was simply wasting time as Governor and didn't want to do it anymore.
Sure, Palin said that it was about the State of Alaska, and she didn't want to spend any more taxpayer money. That sounds good, but the true reality is that when Palin lost the election in 2008, she realized that was her only chance at national politics. Palin started off with a very good speech right after she was announced as the Vice Presidential candidate. From there, she really only had two big interviews, one with Couric and the other with Charles Gibson, both of which ended in disaster. They asked very simple questions, none of which she had answers to. Here are a couple of reminders:
Palin being asked about her proximity to Russia:
Charles Gibson asking Palin about the Bush Doctrine:
At the end of the day, I am pretty certain why Palin resigned. She knows that her future at this point is in the media. Television is what made her famous in the first place and many people are very fond of her. She has a huge book deal, and will probably have no problem finding a home on Fox News. She knows that a position as President, Vice President or anywhere near is not going to happen. Why would she then waste her time as the Governor of Alaska knowing that will be the highest position she will ever hold in politics? The argument is simple: That is what she signed up for and an honest person would finish the job...........but that is not Sarah Palin.
She always had the big picture in mind, and now she realizes that picture is no longer President or Vice President. It is being the center of the political media and I am sure that is where we will see her in the upcoming years. Honestly, it's sad, but I know that is where the "Maverick" will finish. To bad that quitting on her State was the only way to get there.
