Obama's First 100 Days

Today marks the 100th day of Obama as president. I think it's fair to say that he has done a very good job so far. Obama has had a lot to deal with early in in his presidency, primarily focusing on the economy. But he has also led efforts to begin the rebuilding of our foreign policy, set a date for the close of Guantanamo and brought back science into focus of the government. The latest swine flu epidemic has not helped either.

E-Mail Jokes, Spam and Republicans: Where Has the Patriotism Gone?

If you didn't support George W. Bush, or the war or a huge list of things, then the Republicans would question your patriotism. I understand that people disagree on views and ideologies; that doesn't make you un-American, it just means that your view on the way the nation should be ran is different. Democrats spent eight years with Bush as president, and there were many moments when our patience was tested. Conservatives, that supported Bush, then had their opportunity for their agenda to continue with McCain. Unfortunately for them, McCain didn't win.

New York City Flyover for a Photo-op: Really?

Air Force One, followed by an F-16 fighter jet, flew very low throughout New York City and past the Statue of Liberty several times for a photo-op. The issue: nobody told the officials within the city or government. Many of the people that remember 9/11 in the financial district evacuated their office buildings in complete panic. Louis Caldera, Director of the Military Office for the White House, took blame for the incident. Obama had no idea that this took place, and press secretary Robert Gibbs said that President Obama was "furious" about the incident.

Olbermann's Bet to Hannity Over Torture

Keith Olbermann reached out to Sean Hannity and offered $1,000 in charity to military families for every second that Hannity was willing to have someone waterboard him. This was after Hannity stated that waterboarding was simply enhanced interrogation. I cannot speak to the effects of waterboarding, but from what I have read and watched it definitely looks like torture to me. Hannity, at this point, has not taken Olbermann up on his offer.

Republicans Talks of Renaming Democratic Party to "Democrat Socialist Party"

In an extremely patriotic stance, to fix the problems in the country I am assuming, the Republican Party is talking about renaming the Democratic party to the Democrat Socialist Party. Interesting. I am not convinced that will fix the economy, or healthcare....maybe energy independence............probably not. Nevertheless, 23 members of the RNC are talking about this renaming, stating that the Democrats are now trying to move along socialist lines.

Obama and the Teleprompter: Is this What the Right has Resorted To?

Today, Obama had an issue where his teleprompter operator made a mistake. He stuttered a bit, corrected the operator and went on with his speech. I did a quick search and every Right wing media outlet, from Rush to Hannity, made this a highlight. Do you not remember the previous President? Do you not understand there were documentaries, in theaters across the US, dedicated to many of the mistakes he made........including his speeches. God forbid Obama actually work with his administration to create a well defined and eloquent speech to deliver.

Fox Decides Not to Air Obama's Press Conference on Wednesday

Fox network has decided not to air President Obama's press conference on Wednesday but instead will stick with the regular programming. This is the first time in the Obama presidency that Fox chose not to air his broadcast. Whether or not this is a political or financial move needs to be determined, but it just so happens the regularly scheduled show is "Lie to Me" which will be aired. Some crazy right-wing irony there.

This news conference is on the day that marks Obama's 100th day in office. It will be broadcast on NBC, ABC and CBS.

Swine Flu Continues to Spread in the US

The swine flu continues to spread throughout the United States with up to 40 sources now confirmed. There are a total of 1,600 cases in North America, with 149 deaths so far in Mexico. Obama has stated this is a cause for a "heigtened state of alert", but not for alarm. It is definitely something that needs to be proactively monitored as it is spreading very fast.
